History

C.E. and Ida Murphy lived in this house from 1922 to 1954. C.E. was a president of the C.E. Murphy Company, a firm that bought and sold oil leases.

The home represents a blend of styles. The basic floor plan is part Colonial Revival, part bungalow, with a broad front porch, shallow gables, and wide eaves. And incongruous design element is the tiled roof, giving the home a Spanish Colonial Revival look. Architecturally, it is the most unusual home on the block.

In 1986 the house was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. David Carr. Mr. Carr, a sound systems specialist at Ford Audio, and Mrs. Carr, a registered nurse, began a general renovation that included removing the tiled roof, replacing the mechanical systems, and restoring wood floors and trim.
