History

Although its popularity faded as the 1920s progressed, Colonial Revival styling was used for a few homes in the Harndale addition as late as 1928, when this dwelling was constructed. The first occupants were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard C. Towler, owners of the NuWay Laundry Company, followed by Mrs. Rose Jameson, vice president of an oil company. In 1939 the home was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond I. Reeves.

Reeves moved to Oklahoma City in 1926 to attend school. To earn his way, he found a job in the camera department of the Veazey drug store. For the next eight years he helped Veazey open more than 20 stores throughout the city, each with a camera and film developing department. In 1934, Reaves struck out on his own and opened the first Reeves Camera Store.

After moving into the home on 14th, Mr. and Mrs. Reeves built an addition on the east end, enlarged the windows in the dining room, and remodeled the kitchen. They remained in the home until 1954. Later, Dr. and Mrs. Leo J. Starrey lived in the home. Leo served as Chief of Staff at Saint Anthony’s Hospital for many years.

In 2015, an addition was built upstairs, where there had once been a second story, outdoor patio.
