History

A popular expression of the resurgent European architectural trend was English cottage, used more and more as the decade of the 1920s progressed. Here, the architect used features of that style such as steeply pitched roof lines, clipped gables, chimneys on the front, and unbalanced arrangement of gables, doors, and windows.

Since 1929, when it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Hopper, the home has belonged to Mr. Robert J. Hendricks, owner of the Pirate’s Alley art supply store, Mr. J. Frank Dillard, an attorney, Mr. Thomas Payzant, superintendent of the Oklahoma City Public Schools, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Feagan, who remodeled the den, restored bathrooms and the kitchen, and refinished the hardwood floors.

Current neighbors Justin and Amanda Venk shared these thoughts on their home, “When we were looking for a home after living in New York City for three years, we were drawn to Heritage Hills due to the walkability, unique historic homes, and charming streets. We ultimately chose our home because of the location on Harn Park, its distinct architectural features, and had a layout that our young family could grow with. We have recently repainted all of the exterior windows and trim as well as limewashing our previously painted bricks. We have also redone the driveway with a more historic appropriate "ribbon driveway" that was popular in the 1920's. We love our home but we love our neighbors even more. We have made wonderful friends in Heritage Hills and it would be hard to leave because of the connections we have made.”
