History

By 1925, when this house was constructed, architectural taste was shifting back to European styles taken from the English countryside and the Mediterranean coast. Thus ended more than two decades of Colonial Revival and bungalow dominance. Here, features of the new styles include the vertical emphasis of the offset rooms, the arched windows, and the unbalanced façade. Built by developer Cody Fowler, it was sold in February 1925 to Mr. Martin Carriker, president of the Hudson Essex automobile dealership on Broadway. The price was $15,000.
