History

This home was built in 1908 by Autumn S. and Eleanora Connellee.

It is constructed of brown brick and features a green tile roof, broad eaves, symmetrically placed windows, ornamental concrete work on the porch columns and fret-work railing. At the time of its construction, the design would have been considered very contemporary.

Autumn Sidney was born in 1856 in Kentucky. Eleanora Stuart was born in Tennessee in 1861 and moved to Texas in 1874 with her family. In 1877 Autumn moved to Eastland, Texas where he was a deputy sheriff. Autumn and Eleanora were married in 1881 in Texas. In 1889 Autumn started a milling business.

The Connellees moved to Oklahoma City in 1897 where Autumn started the Plansifter Milling Company. Located at 820 S. Robinson, the company advertised a milling capacity of 275 barrels a day and sold the retail brand of Plansifter Blue Ribbon Flour. In 1907 Autumn also started the Crystal Ice and Ice Cream Company. During the World War he supplied the government with ice and ice cream for the camp at Fort Doniphan, Oklahoma.

The Connellees had four children, Charles U., Autumn T., Lewis N., and Sadosa T. The family lived in the home until the early 1920s.

In 1926 it was sold to Daniel R. & Maude Cummings. Daniel was born in Tennessee in 1874. He was an investment broker specializing in real estate loans and insurance. Maude was born in 1868. They had a son Martin and a daughter Jeanne. Maude died in 1932 at the age of 64. After Daniel’s death in 1953, Martin moved into the home and remained until his death in 1974 at the age of 65.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Witten purchased the home and updated the kitchen, removed a doorway between two bedrooms upstairs, and remodeled.

Ari Kugelmass and Karen Ambrose purchased the home in the 1990s and featured the home on the 1997 Home Tour.

Dr. Kugelmass graduated from Columbia University in New York in 1982 and the Harvard Medical School in 1986. Ari is Chief of Cardiology at Baystate Health System in Springfield, Massachusetts and specializes in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
