History

Another long time resident of the neighborhood was Mr. Daniel W. Ohern, an oil man who built this house in 1917. Ohern and his wife, Eugenia, lived in the home until 1954.

The home is Colonial Revival and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie school of design seen in the strong horizontal lines and the open floor plan. There is a central dormer and a broad front porch which is topped by two shallow gables. The porch is floored with gum in a natural finish.

Since 1954, the home has been owned by Dr. Charles M. Bielstein, a physician at Oklahoma City Clinic, Reverend W. Duff Canaday, pastor at the Capital Presbyterian Church, and Robert and Mona Bost, who moved into the home in 1984. Robert, an attorney and general counsel with the Oklahoma National Guard, and Mona, a teacher, began an extensive remodeling of the first floor, landscaped the yard, and added a pool in 1988.

Anita Irwin lived in the home from 1995 to 2014 before moving to a smaller home in Mesta Park. Anita was a beloved neighbor who was always ready to help prepare food and coordinate gatherings for the 14th Street Progressive Porch Party.

Steve and Cheryl Garland purchased the home from Anita. They enjoyed living in the heart of the city and especially enjoyed seeing all the children trick or treating on Halloween.

Current owners purchased the home in 2019 and are undertaking a kitchen remodel.
