Typical of his architectural genius, Nichols took basic house plans and added a variety of features to give each home a distinctive look. This home, patterned after the basic Colonial Revival layout, was altered by the sweeping front porch that wrapped around the side. Completed in 1919, it was sold to Gertrude and Sam P. Shelburne.

Sam moved to Oklahoma City from Enid about 1903 and entered the young automobile industry. By the time he and his wife, Gertrude, bought the home on 20th, he was president of the Shelburne Motor Company, state distributors for Reos and Hupmobiles. They remained in the home until 1942,during which time he also entered the motel business with a chain called Park-O-Tell.

For the next forty-two years the home was occupied by several families. In 1984 it was purchased by Brenda and Terry L. Hawkins. Terry, an attorney, and Brenda, a teacher, completely renovated the interior, added a deck on the back, remodeled the garage, replaced the driveway, steps, and sidewalks, and relandscaped. The Hawkins featured the home on the 1987 Home Tour.
