History

For more than fifty years, this was home to the family of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Holmes, who purchased the Colonial Revival dwelling from G.A. Nichols. Holmes was listed in the city directory as a salesman with the Paige Motor Car Company. In later years he sold automobiles for Greenlease Moore Cadillac and Norton Johnson Buick, and became sales manager at the Cadillac dealership. Holmes died in 1948, but his wife remained in the house until 1974.

The distressed home was restored by the next owners, Suzie and John E. Liljestrand. John, an engineer, and Suzie, a free lance computer programmer, gutted the interior to the shell. Then they added a kitchen to the back and side of the house and built a new bathroom. Outside, they moved windows on the west side, tore off a flat roofed porch, added a new porch, and enclosed the eaves. They also planted more than twenty trees.
