While Walton's ordeal unfolded, Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Looney must have watched in wonder from their home across the street at 432 N. W. 17th. Built by G.A. Nichols during the winter of 1919-1920, the home was a pure expression of the Colonial Revival form. The only addition was the two-room extension on the east side, a sun porch below and a sleeping room above.

The home changed hands numerous times from 1928 to 1979, when it was purchased by Reverend and Mrs. Gene Garrison. A native of Arkansas, Garrison was raised in Texas where he attended West Texas State University and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

After completing his Masters of Divinity, he became pastor at the First Baptist Church of Phillips, Texas. Following a successful tenure as pastor of the First Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas, he was called to lead the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, organized only a few months after the land run of1889.

After moving into the home on 17th, the Garrisons enclosed the sleeping room and sun porch on the east side. They also converted the former garage into a study, updated all mechanical systems, and completely renovated the kitchen.
