Departing from his usual plans, G.A. Nichols built this Colonial Revival home with wood siding instead of brick. It also is distinguished by the single dormer on the roof and the gabled portico over the entryway.

When completed in the summer of 1919, it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lykes. John, president of Lykes Wholesale Hardware, remained in the home only a short time, then moved to Florida to join his brothers in the still famous Lykes Steamship Line. The new owners of the home were Mr. and Mrs. James J. Kilpatrick.

A native of New Orleans, James came to Oklahoma about 1914 and eventually started the Hiawatha Lumber Company. He and his family lived on 20th until 1926. Their son, James J., Jr. is the famous syndicated columnist.

In 1943, after the home had passed through another family, it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ellet, Jr. Natives of Missouri, they moved to Oklahoma City in 1934 after their wedding. Today, the home looks much as it did when constructed.
