Nichols jumped across the street to build this Colonial Revival home in 1922, two years after he completed all of the homes on the opposite side of the street. To provide a unique selling point, he added a red tiled roof with large gables on either end. It was purchased by William T. Hales, one of the richest men in the state and the owner of the grand mansion at 1521 N. Hudson. He gave the home to his oldest daughter, Viva, who had just married William F. Peterson, a son of Swedish immigrants and a salesman at the Harbour-Longmire Furniture Store. Peterson eventually rose to manager of the store. Subsequent owners have included Mr. George Miller, an attorney who presided as judge over the Military Government Courts in occupied Germany during World War Il and later served as a justice on the Oklahoma Supreme Court, and Drs. Donald and Carolyn Smith, who purchased the house in 1981.
