History
The most distinctive home on the block is this two-story Mediterranean mansion built by Mr. and Mrs. George D. Key in 1925. The exterior is uniquely Moorish, with a tiled roof and arched windows and doors. Inside, the Keys added several arched doors, an arched ceiling in the den, and details such as gum woodwork, cast-plaster fireplace hoods, and pocket and French doors. The Keys remained in the home for the next forty years.
Dr. Lin & Ann Sheridan Meiring family lived in the home in the 1960s with their children, Paul, Marcia, Pieter, and Philip. Ann Sheridan Watson had grown up at 700 NW 15th. The Meirings featured their home on the 1968 Home Tour.
In 1977 the home was purchased by Mr. Michael Evans, an attorney by training and chief executive officer of the family business, Evans Home Furnishings, started by his grandfather in Tulsa in the 1930s. Michael enclosed the east porch for a library, added a deck and fence on the east side, modernized the kitchen, and built an eight-foot-tall brick wall around the backyard. He featured the home on the 1983 Home Tour. Robert and Rebecca German later featured the home on the 2008 Home Tour.
