The largest homes on the block were latecomers built on the corner lots facing Hudson. On the Winans Addition side of the street, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon V. Harris bought the lots in 1925 and built this unusual Mediterranean style home distinguished by arches, balconets, and the multi-colored tile roof.

Harris was part of the business leadership that came to Oklahoma City after the boom had run its course. A native of Kentucky, he moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1901 and settled in the raw railroad town of Weatherford, located at the end of the Rock Island tracks. After statehood Harris completed his law degree and moved to Konawa, Wewoka, Holdenville, and finally, Oklahoma City, where he became director of Liberty National Bank, president of the South Motor Supply Company, and vice president of a real estate firm. The Harrises remained in the home until 1955. From 1961 to 1972 it served as a parsonage for St. Luke's Methodist Church.

The home was rescued from deterioration when it was purchased in 1972 by Mr. and Mrs. John Monroe. A building contractor, Mr. Monroe remodeled and repaired, returning the home to its original beauty.
