Although Nichols was by far the most active developer in the northern half of the neighborhood, the addition was actually subdivided and initially marketed by John F. Winans, who sold most of the lots either to developers or to individuals who built their own homes. Winans kept this lot and gave it to his son, George, a salesman with the Thompson Motor Car Company.

In December of 1918 the younger Winans took out a building permit for $4,200, hired D. E. Huffman as contractor, and started work on this unique bungalow. Outstanding elements of the design include the matched set of gables, the long horizontal lines of the porch and porte-cochère, the half-story bedroom on the second floor, and the tapered brick columns. Winans and his wife, Bettye, lived in the home until 1925.
