Dr. and Mrs. Lea A. Riely bought these lots in 1918. Little is known about the Rielys, other than he was a physician with offices in the American National Bank Building.

Their home was typical of the era, with a basic Colonial Revival floor plan and broad front porch supported by massive brick columns. Inside, the Rielys installed five fireplaces, three with ornate marble mantles imported from New Orleans.

In 1924 the Rielys expanded the home. They hired contractor J.W. Lucas, took out a building permit for $3,400, and added two rooms on the west side.

One of the rooms was on the ground level, the other directly above. The Riely's remained in the home until 1951.

In 1968, it was purchased by Dr. John R. and Karol Smith. They began a general remodeling that included updating the plumbing and adding central heat and air.

John was born in Sycamore, Kansas on August 15, 1932. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and the OU Medical School. He served as a physician in the United States Air Force, stationed in Pakistan and Germany. He met Karol King before he left for Pakistan. They soon married and she lived in Germany with him during their first year of marriage. John was then awarded a fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1967, they returned to Oklahoma City with their children, Sean, and twins Sheryl and Shannon. John had just been named Chief of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at the University of Oklahoma Hospital. John also counseled soldiers at Fort Sill in Lawton. John died January 6, 2012. Karol was a leader in the neighborhood serving on the Historical Preservation Associate Board.
