Constructed by G.A. Nichols during the summer of 1920, this home illustrates the variety of architecture on 20th Street. It is a Dutch Colonial Revival, with a Dutch gambrel roof and formal entryway framed by classical columns. It originally had wooden shingles, a common selection for roofing at the time but now a rarity in historic neighborhoods.

Nichols sold the home to Mr. Cecil T. Abell, vice president and cashier at Southwest National Bank, then sold it two years later to Mr. and Mrs. George R. Conover. George was the son of John Conover, who had founded the Richards and Conover Hardware Company before the Civil War. George joined the family business and moved to Oklahoma City in 1921 to help run the Oklahoma branch. George and his wife, Avey, remained in the house for the next six decades.
