History

This two-story Colonial Revival home was built by Nichols and Chandler in the fall of 1917 and sold to Oscar A. Garr, an oilman who died four years later. The home passed to Ephram Foster, a native of Texas, who became a clerk in the Carey Lumber Company in Norman in 1904 and gradually worked his way to become manager of all Carey lumber yards in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas by 1917. He and his wife, Ida, remained in the home until 1924.

A later owner includes John B. Dudley, an attorney with Shartel, Dudley and Shartel, who defended Governor Henry S. Johnston during his impeachment trial.  Another owner was Reverend W. Angie Smith, Bishop of the Methodist Church in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and West Texas. Smith and his wife, Bess, remained in the home from 1944 to 1948.
