Andrew R. Hickam, a former superintendent of Oklahoma City Schools, built this brick Colonial Revival home in 1923. He and his wife, Josephine, had previously lived on the 300 block of 17th for several years.

After Mrs. Hickam's death in 1974, the house was willed to the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, which used it to house and sponsor the family of Binh Cong Nguyen. Binh, a law graduate of Saigon University, had served as distribution manager for Shell Oil Company in Viet Nam before the fall of his country. After immigrating to the United States, he and his family moved to Oklahoma City and the home on 16th.
