History
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Dickson built this Colonial Revival bungalow for $4,000 in 1920. Born in Texas, John came to Oklahoma City in 1908 just as the boom was gaining momentum and entered the real estate business. After the recession of 1911, he left Oklahoma City and became a wildcatter in the oil fields. With exploration fueled by rising oil prices during World War I, John assembled blocks of leases in Texas and Oklahoma. When he built the home on 21st, he was secretary of two oil companies, and three years later became general manager and vice president of Homoakla Oil Company. By 1929, when the Dicksons moved out of the house, Homoakla had assets of $4.6 million.
