History

During the 1920s one of the fastest growing industries in Oklahoma and the nation was automobile manufacturing and sales. In Oklahoma City, the number of dealerships rose from five in 1905 to 76 in 1920, 52 of which were located on North Broadway, known as “automobile alley.” The man who purchased this house in 1927, Hugh Barnard, was one of those dealers, specializing in“ Chrysler products, De Sotos, and Fargo Trucks.”

In 1965 the home was purchased by Dean B. Cutchall, the son of William O. Cutchall, the retailing pioneer who had opened the first Cutchall Men’s Clothing Store in 1927. Mr. and Mrs. Cutchall completely redecorated the home before moving in and added a new roof. They later enclosed the porch for a living area.
