History
Built during the winter and spring of 1925, this English Tudor style home has elements of Craftsman, Prairie and even Victorian styles. Distinguishing features include the oversized chimney and decorative stonework on the front of the home. It has one of the few remaining sun porches in the neighborhood that have not been enclosed.
In 1948, after six families had moved in and out, the house was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wootan. A native of Texas, Ralph moved to Oklahoma City in the1930s and entered the drug store business. By the 1950s he owned four drugstores and his own ice cream plant. The Wootans built a two-story addition in 1956 with a new master bedroom and bathroom upstairs and a family room and bathroom downstairs. They also enlarged the kitchen.
Later owners include Dr. Andy & Lorrie Monteiro who featured the home on the 2011Historic Home Tour. At that time, the living room ceiling fixture and sconces were original. The dining room chandelier was original Italian cut glass and all the gas heaters and fireplaces were original. Other special features included the second-floor telephone niche where the single phone for the household was located, the working attic fan and the functioning laundry chute. The upstairs hall bath also featured the original tile in perfect condition.
The Monteiros made changes to the entrance to the master suite to accommodate an updated modern bath and sauna. They added cabinetry in the family room and renovated the quarters in the garage. They also installed a new pool with fiber optics and waterfalls. In addition, they added new landscaping to complement the existing outdoor fireplace.
Brady Smith & Chelsea Celsor Smith later moved into the home and featured it on the 2017 Historic Home Tour.
